Have you seen it all ?

Introduction

Mirabel is crushed by her long but very skinny best friend Martin, that was always his way to wake her up. She turned her face to look at him with a smile. He return her smile seeing has he got her attention and released her. She return in her sleeping position not wanting to get out of bed. Martin knew the only way that would get her out of bed. “Care to join me for a breakfast ?” She instantly got up unable to remain calm at the sound of free breakfast at her favourite place.

He laughed seeing her suddenly so energized. The energy dropped on both sides as they knew why they had spent last night together. They took a deep breath looking for courage to face the day. She took her time to clean herself while he took his time staring at the gift she had made for them years ago. It held pictures of their best moments. Martin remebered they met when their mothers had both moved in beside each other. Their parents chose to raise them like brother and sister. One was never seen without the other but that was about to change as of today.

Martin watched the scenery as she ate away her breakfast. They both dealt with this separation differently. She avoided the subject the best she could while all he wanted to do is talk about it. Mirabel pointed to Martin plate seeing his dinsterest. He allowed it and she took over for him, eating every last bit of the breakfast. Realizing that there was a silence and so little time to spend, Mirabel chose to speak. “Why are you leaving me?” He let out a soft breath knowing she was trying to express her hurt. He took her hand which she refused to give him looking at his hands in sadness. “I’m going as an intern and if work is good I might open my business there” She shook her head in disbelief. She heard him but did not comprehend the fact that they had to be separated.  “For how long” She asked him. He leaned back taking his hands. He didn’t have an answer for her. She started tearing up but held it back seeing the server picking up their plates. They turned to look at another table celebrating two peoples birthday. What was the best day for others was their worst day.

Little did Martin know, that Mirabel had witnessed the day of her parents separation. They separated for the same reason.. Her father wanted to travel while her mother was unable to because of her. Her mother had asked how long his trip would last and her father had no answer. He had disappeared until he reappeared the day of his death. Mirabel saw him in his coffin laying there lifeless. It had been so long that she had forgotten what he looked like and now all she remebered of him was his pale and lifeless face. She turned away from him seeing that nothing would make him stay. They both went their separate ways, having to face the world without the other. Mirabel instantly broke down.

The first weeks were hard but Martin had his work to distract him. Mirabel on the other hand, became worst every single day. She could not comprehend why he would do this to her. Having lost her mother, she turned to him but now he too was gone. Martin had devoted so much time and learned so quickly that the work he was intern in had raised him quickly to a higher pay. He took his free time to travel more than he had planned. 1 year turned into 2 that turned into 3 years. Martin had opened his first business in the same city he was an intern in. Competing with the very best of his rank. He was expanding quickly opening in another country also giving him a step ahead from his competition. Now his parents had died last year and he needed a break from his successful business that’s when he remebered his childhood bestfriend. Afraid all while confident that she hadn’t forgotten him, he chose to return to see Mirabel, whom he didn’t speak to for 3 years.

All the things he had left unsaid and unanswered before his departure run through my mind but no words can come out of my lips. I had dreamt of this day for so many nights and lost count of the sleepless night I went through. I thought I would be okay by now but I am not. I run away from him. I run to my car and rush to my house to hide. I stand there for a good hour until I relax and take a seat in my chaos. The house is a big mess that I used to suppress my need to act crazy. It was also my way of expressing my chaos inside. I heared the sound of keys being used to enter my place and I froze on the couch. I forgot he still had the keys.

Martin looks at the state of the house and at his friend, realizing the horror he created. He never once thought about the impact that his departure would have on his best friend. He only thought of his need for adventure. She got off the couch to shut the door feeling uncomfortable. He stand shocked at the damage and the wreck he caused her to become. She doesn’t look anything like the girl he left. She looks frightened and sad. I want to hold her but she doesn’t allow me to do so. She walks away from him closing the doors to her bedroom with a sad look on her face. He felt what she felt when he left. Two doors close that wouldn’t open anymore.

I feel distressed in my own place. The knowledge of having him here should feel like an opportunity to say all I had wanted except I don’t know where to start. He’s been gone for so long and didn’t care to call me and now what should I say. I thought I was prepared but the reality is I’m not. I change for bed and slide under my covers. My body gives up to fall asleep having no desire to stay awake.

I wake up to find him laying beside me. I stare at his back silently. We lay in my bedroom for days not eating or doing anything. He tried to take me out but I remained in my ignoring stage. When I finally accept to step out with him, I keep looking at the view refusing to make eye contact.  “Anything to eat?” The waiter ask. I look at him sadly. “I am not hungry.” I answer him quietly. Martin follows my answer by shaking his head to the waiter that offered him a menu. The waiter leaves and I look back at the view upset at myself for accepting to go out with him. I thought I missed this but I don’t.

I turn on the bed to look at her. She lays there without saying anything or moving, she simply breathes, sleeps, breathes and lays all day. She turns to look at me. “What?”  She asks me. “I am looking at you.” She pauses for a second. “Have you seen it all?” I am left speechless at her question. Sure I saw all the most beautiful and less beautiful sights. Met so many people and did so many new things almost every months. Except there was a sight I could never detach from my mind. Mirabel. “No. I missed the smile on your face to chase the many blue skies that separated us.” She looks at me shocked and erupt in laughter. I knew that would make her smile but I never knew what she would do next. She kisses me so softly and quickly but I felt the tingle of her warm lips against mine. It’s my turn to laugh, as she hides her face from me.

Martin won’t let it go. It was just a thank you but he just won’t stop teasingly ask me for another peck. I shake my head at him as we clean my chaos. I stop for a second when his phone rings. He looks at me and I drop the pile of clothes to hide in my bedroom. I shouldn’t freak out it was just for a few days that’s all. I lay on the bed to escape through slumber.

Martin wakes me up by crushing me. He’s so fat. I look at him without smiling wanting to go back to sleep. He remains over me so I do the only thing that will make him move. I peck his lips. He blushes surprised at my gesture. He rushes out of the bedroom. I hear him throw things around from his bag and I watch him curiously from my doorway. He pulls out our memory book and flips the pages until he finds the picture he was looking for. He walks to me and shows me the little love declaration I had made him but he had teased me for. I had made him hot tea when he was sick and at the bottom was a cute message saying I like you. I look at him, to be surprised by a kiss not like I’ve been giving them but a long, lasting kiss.

Martin had never experienced anything so pure and urgent in his life. He needed her and that’s all he knew. At that moment he understood why he shouldn’t have left her like he did the first time. She wrapped her arms around him herself not understanding why this felt so normal but at the same time like it had been missing from her. He didn’t allow her to escape him by holding her waist. She looked away from him with tears in her eyes. “When is your flight scheduled for?” She asked him before detaching herself from him.

It took them ten hours of constant fighting for her to accept to take the plane. But not after giving up her place and agreeing that if she didn’t like it she could come back. So he went ahead and she tried to stay but he surprised her 2 months later with her own ticket and a plan to take her with him. She didn’t fight him because this time he came back quickly to take her with him like he had promised. Mirabel looked in awe through her small window opening. She had never seen anything so beautiful. Martin watched her point out  everything to him. But he was scared that he could lose her anytime, unknowingly Mirabel had already set her mind on not leaving him.

I watch her dance in her new dress. She’s just opened her new business and looks so delicate. I could just picture this forever. Which I’ve already got people doing for us. She stops spinning with a giggle. I take my chance to kneel before her. The words didn’t even flow out of my lips that she had tears in her eyes.

Martin she cried to herself showing him her hand in sign of acceptance. They hadn’t seen all bright days but they always made time to cherish each other with words of acceptance of each other no matter how loud he could get with his success. She didn’t find it very fun but knew that it was his way to celebrate to her. He got on his feet and it was her turn after so long of not kissing to lay her lips on his to share a long and lasting kiss. They separated when his phone rang. Martin took her hand. “Let’s get to work shall we.” She laughs in agreement.

Note from the author Leaving without closing the door causes great distress. Kind words are needed in a world that praises running instead of facing the road ahead. Being the difference will always be the best way to stand out.❤🌹
